SUMMARY

Students will build a company to promote active lifestyles.

They will define objectives and activities and implement them, analysing results that they will share with the educational community.

DESCRIPTION

At UNI EIBAR ERMUA, we encourage active, real initiatives that are involved with the health of the society we live in. Initiatives that are able to empower students. They establish an “encouragement” company and decide on their objectives and actions. They undertake two basic activities:

“the ‘martxa’ (march) for health” and the “school health protocol,” and they decide on other initiatives. This year, health week.

The “martxa” calls the student populations of Éibar and Ermua to take a walk, play games and do health activities.

The “protocol” is a visit to these schools. While there, they give an interactive nutritional talk and conduct posture, anthropometric and physical condition tests.

They draw up a personalised file which is then given to teachers for their information and so they can make decisions to correct any deficiencies found.

Students rate the workshop and the university visitor group’s initiative.

For over 8 years now, the score has never been lower than 8.

ENTREPRENEURIAL SELF-EVALUATION

It leads students to the need to create a real company that encourages individual and group initiatives, both to establish and to organise the company. It provides for evaluation and decision-making to adjust or correct actions whose results diverge from the objectives they agreed upon.

They receive direct feedback on all their decisions, going beyond the academic dynamic.

NEWNESS SELF-EVALUATION

The student leaves the classroom and establishes contact and negotiations with the players conditioning the result of their actions: schools, sport centres, newspapers, radios, Town hall, Sponsors, etc.

Only appropriate management will bring positive results, although negative results are also educational. The listening student becomes an actor.

USEFULNESS/EFFECTIVENESS SELF-EVALUATION

Anyone could apply this methodology. We have been doing so since 2011 at UNI EIBAR ERMUA.

We have brought THE HEALTH debate to the street.

We directly managed to create these health encouragement companies annually.

Above all else, we managed to raise student awareness of the need to take on healthy and active lifestyles.

SELF-EVALUATION OF RESULTS IN STUDENTS

It is mandatory to bring companies closer to students’ everyday lives. The experiences of their actions should build their educational universe. We are merely guides and orientation counsellors. Institutional protectionism only removes us from the reality of business. The student must be the actor in his or her learning.
